Forced Mail Order Pharmacy Causes Significant Delays In Discharge For Babies

“This mandate often leads to significant delays in discharge for our NICU babies since we do not allow discharge unless ALL medications are verified & parents can demonstrate proficiency in administration, therefore increasing their length of stay & putting them at risk for nosocomial infections. So the insurance companies save a few pennies using mail order but throw away millions in prolonged ICU stays. Not to mention the emotional impact on these parents who have never taken their new babies home to be told the insurance company is delaying their discharge!“- C. Nowak
